AET Tracer PRO exists largely because of the need to track and report network abusers (read hackers, crackers, scam-artists and the likes) from all around the world, but also to
analyse and visualize networks. To track and report a network abuser all you need is the abusers IP-address
and AET Tracer PRO will do the rest. You can also load a firewall log file into AET Tracer and track down all addresses that is caught in your firewall.
The program will track and display the route and geographical origin of the addresses in a table and on a world map.
You can also trace the sender of an e-mail. The trace is performed the same way as described above.
The difference is that you have an e-mail as input instead of an IP-address. Tracing of e-mails is done through
the E-mail Tracer tool, where you simply input the e-mail and click on one button and AET Tracer PRO will do the rest.
Once the trace is finished a range of other tools can be used to find out a lot more information
about the abuser. You can use the Whois tool, which can show you information about the IP
address which belongs to the abuser. A Whois query displays a lot of information about the owner which usually
is the ISP (Internet Service Provider). Among other things you will find information such as names, addresses,
phone numbers and e-mail addresses of the people who is responsible for the IP-address. You can also
see what IP-range the specific IP address belongs to.
Another tool which might come in handy is the Network scanner. The scanner actually consists of seven different scanners,
each serving it's own purpose. All scanners are controlled from the same graphical interface for ease of use and to
give a nice overview of all the scans. Scan results are displayed in two different ways simultaneously, a tree view
with expandable and collapsible nodes and a console displaying plain text output.
The seven scanners are:
TCP port scanner, UDP port scanner, NetBIOS scanner, Ping scanner, SMTP relay scanner, SMTP VRFY scanner and Name server entries scanner.
AET Tracer PRO's most important tool is probably the "Abuse Reporter". The "Abuse Reporter" will compile and send an
abuse report e-mail to the abusers ISP. The reporter can work totally automatic or ask for input and validation for each abuse report.
The "Abuse Reporter" can also be used together with both the e-mail tracer and the firewall log tracer.
The last tool, the "Netstat" display, is the only tool that is not used on specific traces, instead it's
made to monitor your own computers network adapters and their connections. You can use this tool to find out the IP-address
of any computer connected to you. "Netstat" will show you if there is any "Trojan horses" or remote
administration tools active on your computer. It will also indicate any attempt to hack your computer in
real time at the given moment.
Used together with a firewall with logging capabilities, AET Tracer PRO becomes a very powerful tool.
Many other fields of use exists, including analysis and visualization of network traffic and bottlenecks.
Each tool in the collection can also be used separately and will thereby be serving different purposes. |
